Now that Monolith Software has released a sixteen-minute long video of Middle-earth: Shadow of War gameplay, they’re also talking about all of the Middle-earth: Shadow of War customization. These include creating entire armies that are focused entirely around killing you, instead of just warchiefs and high-ranking orcs.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which won praise for its innovative Nemesis System. In the system, various Orcs you encountered would remember your meetings with them, and would gain qualities depending on how you killed them the first time.
Shadow of War appears to be similar, but the Middle-earth: Shadow of War customization system has been deepened and expanded off of Shadow of Mordor.
The Nemesis System now not only extends to your enemies, but to your branded warchiefs, the fortresses you conquer, and your armies of orcs.
For instance, orcs can suddenly betray you and throw off the branding that allows you to control them. They’ll run back to Sauron and get powered up, including getting a Curse power that keeps you from using your Ring of Power and prevents them from being branded again.
Other orcs that you brand and mind-control can become loyal followers, even something approaching friends.
All of this new Middle-earth: Shadow of War customization allows you to create new, unique stories that will allow you to have a different story every time you play through the game.
Fortresses will be tailored to the Overlords that rule them, and the game’s RPG elements have also been upped, now allowing you to put on new armor as you progress through the game.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be releasing on August 22 of this year, so if you can wait that long, you’ll soon be rampaging around Mordor at the head of an army of Orcs like many an aspiring Dark Lord has always wanted to do.
