When a video game is released, usually the PC version of the game gives more options compared to the console versions. However, the PC version of Resident Evil 7 lacked the FOV slider and 21:9 aspect ratio support and Capcom has explained why.
According to Capcom, the lack of FOV and 21:9 support for the PC version of the game is mainly due to technical reasons. While Capcom wanted to include the FOV slider to the game but doing so introduced some bugs related to objects and textures. Also, there was an immersion issue, as allowing players to see more of the game environment might decrease tension.
