Nintendo Switch Cartridges Won’t Require An Installation Process
The Nintendo Switch is apparently getting the leg up on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in terms of pricing, portability, and the price of its online services. Now the Nintendo Switch cartridges appear to be doing the same thing. They won’t require an installation process to be played.

On the Xbox One and Playstation 4, games have to be manually installed before they can be played, unlike the previous generation where you could pop a game in and start playing immediately. Cartridges for Switch games are more in line with that sort of thinking, putting the console’s physical media in a much better spot.
The information about the Nintendo Switch cartridges comes from a Destructoid writer, who said that as he inserted the cartridge for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, he wasn’t forced to wait through an installation process like he has to on other consoles.
While the same isn’t going to be true for online media that you download off the Nintendo Store, the non-existent physical wait can be a big help.
With the cartridges not having to be installed, developers that are going for the Switch are going to be able to do a lot more with physical media, including not just original games but ports as well.
With a booming third-party scene promised by Nintendo, the Switch has a lot of good games ahead of it that will hopefully come to the Switch in the console’s run.
The Nintendo Switch is slated to come out on March 3, next Friday, so if you’re willing to wait for just a little while longer you can buy a Switch and see what Destructoid is talking about when you put in Nintendo Switch cartridges and, for the first time in years, be able to instantly play the game without waiting.
