Developer Cindori came up with a new application that allows usage of Oculus Rift as VR headset on Mac operating systems. However, you are required to have Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 and a MacOS system with 10.11 or higher firmware version.
Oculus Rift launched in March, last year, and it was said that Mac operating systems will not get the official support of Oculus Rift. The reason was the GPU requirement of Macs not meeting the demanded specifications to run Oculus Rift on macs.
Later on, Oculus Rift tilted the focus from macs to Windows platform. Developer Cindori then said it will come up with an application that will allow Rift to work on a mac operating system.
One can use the VR headset for multifarious purposes, be it entertainment, movies or Virtual multiple screens projected out in thin air in the environment. The possibilities are countless, only limited with the constraint of time.
The Company plans to release a consumer version of the Oculus Rift headset later this year and that HTC Vive will also get a Mac support for VR experience, later this year. Till then, if you look forward to get hands-on experience of VR technology on a macOS device, you will need to buy the app along with Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 and a macOS version of 10.11 or higher.
The Oculus Rift is a great VR headset, it was set back by the lack of in-game immersion due to the fact that you had to use an Xbox controller with the device. The HTC Vive, on the other hand, came with dedicated controllers, making it an overall better experience.
