The current ranked season of Overwatch is scheduled to conclude later this month, giving the community less than two weeks to grind any further milestones.
Posting on the official forums, Blizzard announced that season three is scheduled to end on February 21. The new season will then commence just a week after on February 28, accompanied by a major update that promises to bring various changes and balances for heroes and other gameplay aspects.
Those who complete their placement matches before the end of season three will be eligible to receive a special spray and player icon. However, those who manage to place in the top 500 players of a region will receive an additional animated spray and player icon. All rewards will be sent out once the season ends and automatically added to eligible accounts.
Furthermore, Blizzard will be rewarding Competitive Points based on the maximum skill rating achieved during the season. The following is the breakdown for the system:
- SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
- SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
- SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
- SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
- SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
- SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
- SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP
“Throughout Season 3, we’ve been listening to the community and modifying our plans based on your feedback,” said the developer. “We really appreciate hearing your opinions, and can’t thank you enough for taking the time to help us make Overwatch better.”
2017 holds great value for the competitive scene of the game. An Overwatch League is scheduled for inauguration in the third quarter, which will take cues from traditional sports and offer “genuine career opportunities” for the most skilled players. Blizzard is particularly interested in franchising the esports scene of Overwatch. More information has been promised to arrive next month.
