If you were wondering if previous games designed for other systems would work on the Nintendo Switch then you are not alone. Many people have this concern as it is a major factor when buying a new console. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima addressed this issue and he made it clear that the Nintendo Switch will not be backward compatible with games that have been designed for other systems.
This, however, does not mean that previous games will not come to the new hybrid console as Tatsumi Kimishima has said that the company could make ports for the Nintendo Switch some time in the future and these ports will either be the original game or an enhanced version of the original. According to Kimishima:
“Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems. Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update.“
We may also be getting Wii U games on the Nintendo Switch some time in the future as well so there is still hope. One of the important things that consumers look at when buying a new console is the games that are available.
Backward compatibility would have been a major selling point for Nintendo Switch and it is a bummer that games will have to be remade for the upcoming hybrid console.
“In some cases, games from past systems may be re-released for the Nintendo Switch system as either enhanced or original versions,”
Less than a month is left until the launch of the hybrid console and there are people all over the world that are excited about the device. I for one would like to see more games announced for the device before I commit to getting one. Let us know what you think about the Nintendo Switch.
