Playground Games has made a name for itself with Forza Horizon series and now the studio is looking to widen its portfolio as the studio will soon start working on a non-racing open-world game.
As reported by GamesIndustry, the studio is currently looking to increase its workforce to work on a game codenamed “Project 2”. According to founder and creative director, Ralph Fulton, the team has become quite good at developing racing games but they want to prove themselves in a different genre.
We feel like we’ve become pretty good at racing games over the years. We can always strive to get better but we’d love to prove ourselves in a different genre. That’s another goal of Project 2, to allow us to do that. We’re going to need to hire some very talented people with experience that we don’t have.
While the studio will be working on a new game but it has no plans to abandon the Forza Horizon franchise. According to Fulton, Forza is the “cornerstone” for the studio.
Our business with Forza over the last six, seven years has been great for us. It remains the cornerstone of our business–we’re not running away from racing, we still feel passionate about making new racing games and delivering new experiences for our players.
It is still unknown that whether or not Project 2 will be a Xbox exclusive or a multiplatform title. Given that the studio is independent, the game could be a multiplatform title, however, all of the studio’s game till now have been published by Microsoft.
