Recently, Kojima revealed that why he chose the game after leaving Konami. According to Kojima, Death Stranding was his best idea for the gaming market at that time.

come up with new ideas every day and they all override each other. I had several at the front of my mind, and we ended up choosing the game that – first of all – would be best for the market, and the one we were most enthusiastic about making. That was Death Stranding.

Kojima’s upcoming game will be using a modified version of DECIMA game engine which is developed by Guerrilla Games. According to Kojima himself, DECIMA is a fantastic game engine and the game will be photorealistic when it releases.

Decima is a fantastic render engine, but there’s no point if we create the same world as Guerrilla Games. Horizon: Zero Dawn has a fantastic artistic vision, but we are more aiming for a photorealistic style.

Death Stranding is an upcoming action video game in development at Kojima Productions and is expected to launch in 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
