PS4 System Software Update 4.5.0 Detailed, Will Add External HDD Support, Custom Wallpapers And More
Sony has been releasing frequent updates for the PlayStation 4 that bring performance stabilities and new features. Now Sony has announced PS4 system Software update 4.5.0 that will be released in the future and starting today those who have been selected for the beta program will get to try it out.
PlayStation Brand Marketing Vice President John Koller announced on PlayStationBlog that PS4 System Software update 4.5.0 is the next major update for the system. He also detailed the features that PS4 System Software update 4.5.0 will be bringing with it.
With the upcoming software update, the PlayStation 4 will support external hard drives. Players will have to just plug-in a USB 3.0 HDD into their PS4 and they will have more space for their console. This feature will only support external hard drives up to 8 TB in size.
Players will be able to download and install applications directly to the external hard drive, and “the saved contents are easily manageable through the settings menu”. Also, applications installed on the external hard drive will show up in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen.
PS4 System Software update 4.5.0 will also bring the feature to apply a custom wallpaper as the background image for PS4’s home screen. “Drop-shadows on text, and the option to dim the Function Area, will help keep the system icons and texts on the home screen clearly visible even if the background image you selected is super bright”.
Users will also be able to edit their screenshots using the Photo Mode in Sharefactory to create their own custom wallpaper.
This update will also bring “Quick Menu Refresh” that will bring “additional improvements” to PS4 Quick Menu “to make it even more accessible”. After this update, the Quick Menu will cover less of the gameplay screen.
Simplified Notification List is an another feature that PS4 System Software update 4.5.0 will be making improvements to. According to Koller, they’ve condensed all of the tabs to a single simplified list, making it easier to see all of your notifications all at-a-glance.
Players will also be able to “quickly access the Notification settings from the Options Menu to turn off or customize which pop-up notifications appear on your screen, so you’re only being notified about your top priorities”.
This system software will also bring 3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR. “This update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!”.
John Koller noted that these are not the only features that will be added to the PlayStation 4 with the upcoming update, so keep an eye out for further details.
