For the survival crowd that enjoy survival games like The Forest, there’s going to be another game coming soon for you from Parabole and RavensCourt. Called KONA, the game will be set in 1970s Canada, where you, as a detective, must uncover the secrets behind a mysterious blizzard.
The game’s title and setup actually brings to mind the Polish-developed survival-horror game Kholat, which takes place in Russia instead of Canada, though it’s also a survival game where players must mark their positions on a map and use cartography to find their way to the various important locations on the game’s map in order to discover what killed a number of hikers (an infamous unsolved mystery in real-life).
Other survival games like KONA besides games like Kholat would also be The Forest, The Long Dark, Miscreated, and more. Exactly how “hard” KONA will be (meaning if there’s a mini-map or a map system like Kholat) remains to be seen, but from what Parabole and RavensCourt say, the game may be a great deal like Kholat, with an omnipresent third-person narrator, surviving the elements, paranormal events, and more.
There’s no definite release date for KONA yet beyond March 2017, and with only seven people on the game’s development team RavensCourt is going to be handling the publishing on the Xbox One and Playstation 4, while the actual development team at Parabole puts the game up on Steam, Good Old Games, and the Humble Bundle Store.
If survival games are up your alley, and you’ve beaten games like Kholat, The Forest, and other games like it, you can be on the lookout for KONA coming sometime this March on the Xbox One, the Playstation 4, and the PC via Steam, Good Old Games, and the Humble Bundle Store. Until then, hopefully we’ll get some more information about the game from the developers in the next few months.
