Tim Schafer fans might have cause to rejoice after rumors have surfaced that we may be seeing Psychonauts 2 on the Nintendo Switch. The news came from Double Fine Studios’s Twitter account. Double Fine, the same studio behind games like Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, Brütal Legend, The Cave, Broken Age, Massive Chalice, and more.
Psychonauts was a critically acclaimed game for the original Xbox and the Playstation 2, but has since been re-released on the Playstation 4. A sequel is supposed to be in the works for 2018, and considering the amount of popular games that the studio has released, there’s a good possibility that the console will have a lot of Double Fine games on it in the future.
Psychonauts 2 on the Nintendo Switch might be a good system-seller if people buy it just as much on the Nintendo Switch as they do on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, along with the other platforms the game is releasing on. With another different Psychonauts game, “Psychonauts and the Rhombus of Ruin”, slated to release sometime in the first part of 2017 on the Playstation VR.
Since it’s been a very long time since the last Psychonauts game came out (even with the remastered re-release for the Playstation 4), Rhombus of Ruin is probably something that would be needed in order for gamers to get used to the idea of Psychonauts again, if the younger gamers that have never played the game get back into it. With the first game now available on the Playstation 4, gamers that have both a Playstation 4 and the Playstation VR can bridge all three games together easily.
Currently Double Fine has no plans for a version of Psychonauts 2 on the Nintendo Switch; however, if they think it’s worth it, we might actually be seeing a port of the game to that console, so fans should keep an eye out.
