After announcing that there would be a remake of Prey coming at last year’s E3 conference, Bethesda and Arkane Studios have finally announced the official Prey release date after months of guessing. According to both companies, Prey will be releasing sometime on May 5 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
The re-imagined version of Prey that Bethesda debuted at E3 is somewhat different than the original game, a first-person shooter made by Human Head Studios that told the story of a man named Tommy attempting to stop an alien spacecraft known as the Sphere from consuming the Earth to sustain itself.
This time around, Prey takes place in an alternate history where John F Kennedy survived the attempt on his life. As such, he put more money into the United States’s space program, and mankind’s first voyage into space brought it into contact with a hostile alien life form known as “Typhon”. Now, playing as Morgan Yu, players must find a way to stop the Typhon from getting off of the Talos One space station when they get loose, using both regular weapons and Neuromods that give him special powers.
The Prey release date announced by Arkane finally puts a concrete date on when the game will actually come out, though as there’s still around four months to wait we may look at a possible delay unless Arkane believes everything is progressing smoothly. Plus, with all of the buzz that surrounded Prey after it was announced at E3, the game will hopefully do well in its release window, which is just before the normal summer deluge of blockbuster games begins.
If you want to get even more out of the Prey release date, you can pre-order the game to get a variety of cool new weapons and abilities to use in-game.
