Overwatch Lunar New Year Event Has Begun, Here’s Everything to Know

Blizzard has finally started the Overwatch Lunar New Year event, taking place on the Chinese Lunar New Year. The new event promises new costumes, new sprays, and a new Capture-The-Flag game mode. The event will be running from January 24 to February 13, so you’ve got around three weeks to play.

According to Blizzard there are over 100 cosmetic items and lots of fireworks coming along with the event. These will all be available through special Lunar Loot Boxes, which will give you at least one of these cosmetic items.

Many of the game’s characters will also be getting new costumes, all of which give their normal outfits a special Chinese flair.

Whether it’s Bastion decked out in a sweet Chinese color scheme, or with four characters dressed up as the main group from Journey to the West (including Winston dressed up as Sun Wukong, Reinhardt looking like Sha Heshang (a Chinese river monster), Roadhog dressed as the pig-monster Zhu Bajie, or Zenyatta dressed as Tang Sanzang) and even D.Va gets in on the action, wearing a kimono instead of her pilot outfit and also dressing up her mecha.

In addition to the various costumes, Blizzard has also released a comic to go along with the Overwatch Lunar New Year event. Being a monkey (or rather, ape, if you want to get into semantics), and growing up on the moon as part of a lunar colony, Winston was introduced to the classic Chinese story “Journey to the West” by his namesake, Doctor Harold Winston, and as such holds Chinese New Year very close to him.
