With one of the most controversial elections now over, and one of the United States’s most controversial presidents in recent history now elected, politics on the internet are something that are a hot subject of debate among many, especially on Twitter. However, Naughty Dog won’t be avoiding politics in The Last Of Us 2.
In Twitter several days ago, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann had an exchange with a fan who wanted him to keep his own, personal politics out of the game, which will be releasing sometime in the future, either in 2017 or 2018, most likely.
Considering how divisive the American presidential election has been among many in the world, even those that aren’t American, one might understand why a fan would want to keep politics out of something they play to escape from reality.
However, Druckmann responded to the tweet by saying that he couldn’t do that, as writers work off their views of the world, and thus his politics would inevitably show up in the game.
For instance, the ending of the previous Last Of Us game also drew on Druckmann’s own politics, though he’s been mostly mum on that front as to what exactly his politics are.
Many people on the internet, ranging from regular people to celebrities and industry figures, have made clear their feelings on Donald Trump, who won the 2016 presidential election to become the 45th President of the United States last Friday. While his election (and election politics in general) have been divisive on the internet, one can hardly ask a writer to give up his own politics, something that has proven to be important in one of the best-written games in the past few years, is something that can’t likely be agreed to, especially when you work at Naughty Dog.
Hopefully, Druckmann’s personal politics in The Last Of Us 2 will end up giving it just as good of a story as the first game.
