Windows 10 update brought 3D For Everyone, Everywhere. Now, Microsoft has just announced the acquisition of Simplygon as well as their talent to help the company with this feature.
Windows 10 Creators Update introduced 3D for everyone and the tech provided by Simplygon is going to accelerate and improve the features. The acquisition will strengthen Microsoft’s position in 3D creation and is going to make it easier for the user to share, create, and capture 3D content.
Simplygon will boost Microsoft’s “aspirations to empower a new wave of creativity with the Windows 10 Creators Update.”
In a blog post, Microsoft welcomed the team:
Simplygon was developed by Donya Labs AB, a privately held company based in Sweden. Donya was founded in 2006 with the aim to be the premier developer of automatic 3D data-optimization solutions. Simplygon is a leader in 3D game optimization, dedicated to helping creators and users of 3D data across industries optimize content pipelines and streamline workflows.
The leadership team, led by CEO Matt Connors, founder and CTO Ulrik Lindahl and co-founder Koshi Hamedi, bring a depth of knowledge around 3D creation optimization, and we’re excited to welcome the team to Microsoft.
Simplygon is used in a number of different products and Microsoft can surely benefit from what the technology has to offer. Microsoft kept the financial side to the deal under wraps but we can be certain that is wasn’t cheap.
All Microsoft needs now is focus on providing a healthy flow of features to Windows 10.
