According to industry insider Shinobi602, it seems like Sucker Punch Production’s long in development PS4 title is actually a brand new IP.
Many had previously thought that Sucker Punch, known for their inFamous franchise, has been working on a new game and it would be a sequel to inFamous Second Son.
However, while talking about the recent cancellation of Hideki Kamiya’s Scalebound for Xbox One, Shinobi602 mentioned that Sucker Punch is currently working on a new IP for Sony’s PS4 console.
While Shinobi602 has had a very good track record of inside industry information, until an official confirmation this should be regarded as a rumor.
Since Sucker Punch has been absent from conventions and expos for a while now and didn’t even reveal any new game during E3 2016, it is possible that their new IP might be officially unveiled at the upcoming E3 2017 with a potential release of holiday 2017 or spring 2018.
Even though Sucker Punch hasn’t really been in the news much, after all their last game was inFamous First Light which was actually just a small standalone expansion of Second Son, they seem to have been quite busy behind the scenes.
It was also recently revealed that Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game, Death Stranding, was being built on Decima engine, which is actually a modified version of the inFamous Second Son engine in use by Sucker Punch.
After he left Konami, Kojima had toured various development studios and Sucker Punch was one of them. Seems like he really ended up liking their game engine for the cinematic quality inFamous Second Son offered.
Shinobi602 didn’t really reveal any other information about the new IP yet but considering that the PS4 is out now, it can be expected that the game will launch with full PS4 Pro support which means 4K resolution and textures.
