Intel Core i7-7700K Reaches 7 GHz, Intel Core i3-7350K Reaches 5 GHz

Kaby Lake does run hotter than Skylake and is more power hungry but it seems that there is a lot of overclocking headroom as many chips are able to hit 5 GHz with relative ease. At CES 2017 overclocking enthusiast were able to overclock the Intel Core i7-7700K to 7 GHz with liquid nitrogen cooling and the Core i3-7350K to 5 GHz with liquid cooling.

Enthusiast grade motherboards were used to push the Intel Core i7-7700K to 7 GHz. ASUS ROG Maximus IX APEX and the ASRock Z270 Taichi motherboards were used to make this possible. The Intel Core i7-7700K is the top of the line chip from the Kaby Lake lineup and it is the fastest as well. The features of the processor are as follows:

  • Quad-core
  • Hyper-threaded design
  • 14nm+ process node
  • 4.2 GHz base clock
  • 4.5 GHz boost clock
  • 8 MB of L3 cache
  • 91W TDP
  • $305 US

Intel Core i3-7350K Reaches 5 GHz

This is at the top end of the spectrum however and I am sure that not many gamers will be looking at this solution for gaming. For budget gamers that are looking for an upgrade, we have the Intel Core i3-7350K. This is the first time that we are seeing an unlocked version of an i3 processor and it has been overclocked to 5 GHz with ease. The Corsair H110i GTX was used to cool the CPU and the temperature was decent. If you are looking to get into overclocking on a budget then this could be something worth looking into. Features of the CPU are as follows:

  • Dual core
  • Multi-threaded design
  • 14nm+ process node
  • 4.0 GHz base clock
  • 4.2 GHz boost clock
  • 4 MB of L3 cache
  • 91W TDP
  • $157 US
