PlayStation 4 is continuing its reign over the console market as Sony has revealed sales figures for its flagship console during the holiday season. According to Sony, PlayStation 4 holiday sales were more than 6.2 million units.
The data for PlayStation 4 holiday sales was collected worldwide. Combining the PlayStation 4 holiday sales brings the overall units sold for the console to 53.4 million units as of January 1st, 2017.
That’s not all as Sony has revealed that 50.4 million copies of games were sold during the holiday season and this includes both physical copies and digital downloads. The biggest contributor to this sales figure seems to be Naughty Dog as their Uncharted 4 has “sold through” more than 8.7 as of December 21st, 2016.
President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, also said in a press release that he is very grateful for the support from fans and partners that have made this holiday season for the company the best ever.
We are truly grateful for the tremendous support from our fans and partners, which has helped make this holiday season one of the best in our history. We will aim to continue the momentum this year by broadening the PS4 title portfolio, further enriching the revolutionary gaming experiences on PlayStation VR and high quality gaming experience on PlayStation 4 Pro, while also expanding network services. We will remain steadfast in making the PS4 the best place to play.
Microsoft did seem to make a comeback in the 2nd half of 2016 with their Xbox One S, but the release of PlayStation 4 Pro and PSVR has got Sony back on track. At this rate, PlayStation 4 might become Sony’s new best-selling console of all time.
