Blizzard has announced that it is rolling out a fix for Mei’s wall glitch in Overwatch that allows players to teleport out of the map.
The glitch basically allows Mei players to teleport outside of a map and kill other players without worrying about receiving return-fire; essentially making her invincible.
Mei’s Wall Glitch in Overwatch is Getting a Fix Today
Following an outcry on the game’s official forums, Overwatch’s Game Director, Jeff Keplan, has announced that a workaround to fix the glitch is underway and should be available on Jan. 05, 2017.
According to Keplan, the bug was tricky for the development team to track down, but the studio has identified a fix. Continuing, he said that there is a chance that the fix could fail, but the studio is verifying it nonetheless.
Keplan also said that the studio clearly sees the bug as an exploit which is essentially considered cheating. He also warned all the players to refrain from reproducing the bug as it could lead to a ban. Keplan also confirmed that the studio will take actions against everyone who abused the exploit. You can read his entire statement below:
Hi. This bug was surprisingly tricky for us to track down but we believe we have identified a fix. Our hope is to have it fixed sometime tomorrow (1/5/2017 PST) but there is always the chance that our fix could fail. We’re currently testing to verify the fix.
This bug is clearly an exploit and we consider this cheating. Do not attempt to reproduce this bug. If you see someone abusing this mechanic, please report them.
We will be taking action against those who abused this exploit. Overwatch is a PvP experience so that means exploiting game mechanics like this comes at a cost to those you are competing against. We take aggressive action against people who abuse game mechanics, hack or cheat. This case is no different.
Apologies that this bug lingered for as long as it did. Hopefully, this should go away soon (along with those who abused it).
Overwatch is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
