AMD Vega GPU Images, HBM2 Stacks, 8 GB VRAM, 512 GB/s

When AMD set up a timer on the new Vega site we thought that there would be a live preview but it seems that we were wrong in thinking so. But we do have some other images and information regarding the AMD Vega GPU that might fill the gap created by these disappointing turn of events.

AMD has shown what the AMD Vega GPU die will look like, that will power the upcoming AMD RX 500 series GPUs. The upcoming GPU that features the HBM2 standard was shown to selected press at the event. HBM2 takes more space as compared to the first generation and the die size is 78mm2. But on the other side, we will be looking at higher density per layer.

The GPU is the biggest that we have seen so far and looking at the size and comparing it to what we have seen so far the AMD Vega GPU should pack a lot of power.


Highlights Of AMD Vega GPU Architecture’s Advancements

The following are the changes that AMD Vega Architecture brings with it.

The world’s most advanced GPU memory architecture:

A new high-bandwidth cache and its controller have been introduced in the new AMD Vega architecture and this enables the system to transfer terabytes of data every second. HBM2 enables greater capacity at less than half the footprint as compared to GDDR5 memory.

Next-generation geometry pipeline:

AMD Vega GPU architecture enables programmers to extract incredible efficiency in processing complex geometry. All this is done while delivering more than 200% of the throughput-per-clock over as compared to prior Radeon architectures. Improved load-balancing delivers consistent performance when it is needed the most.

Next-generation compute engine:


A next-gen compute engine is found at the heart of the AMD Vega architecture and it is built upon flexible compute units that can natively process 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit or 64-bit operations per clock cycle. These compute units can operate at higher frequencies as compared to what we have seen in previous architectures.

Advanced pixel engine:

The new Vega pixel engine improved performance and power consumption. It reduced workload for the graphics.

It is interesting to see what the AMD Vega GPU has to offer and AMD has said that the AMD Vega GPU will be coming out in the first half of 2017 so the wait is not as long as you might think.
