Although we still do not know much about AMD Vega we were shown what it has to offer at the New Horizon event last year. We also got a glimmer of the performance that it has to offer at the AMD demo at CES 2017. At the demo, the AMD Vega GPU was running Star Wars Battlefront at ultra settings and the framerate was capped at 60 Hz Vertical Sync. Though there were some FPS drops here and there and the frames would drop to 57 FPS but overall, the AMD Vega card was consistent.
Although we do not know anything about the GPU expect that it was based on the AMD Vega architecture it proved to be a great combination with the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen chip running at 3.4 GHz. The combo managed to run Star Wars Battlefront at 60 FPS at 4K resolution and that is very impressive, to say the least.
If a single AMD Vega GPU is capable of such performance then I am waiting to see what would happen if you had another one of those bad boys in your system. I doubt there will be a game that this system would not be able to run.
Even though AMD Vega is a mystery, it does seem promising and AMD has not backed off from the fight. Team red means business here and we could see 2017 as a winning year for AMD with their new CPUs and GPUs coming out. AMD CEO Lisa Su has confirmed that Ryzen and Vega are on track and should be hitting the market on time.
What do you think about AMD Vega and the Ryzen CPU combination? Do you think 2017 would be the right year to make an all AMD gaming PC? I think AMD will be making a big splash this year and the company will be getting a lot of attention from not only their fans but new gamers as well.
