Players that pre-order Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on the Playstation Store will be getting a free, special Rogue One PS4 theme in order to commemorate the movie’s release. The movie, which releases worldwide on Friday, is the second of the new generation of Star Wars films coming out since The Force Awakens.
Rogue One tells the story of the Rebel Alliance’s mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the planet-destroying superweapon that was the focus of the very first Star Wars movie, A New Hope. Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, and a number of other soldiers of the Rebel Alliance will be infiltrating the planet Scarif (now the focus of a Battlefront map) to steal the plans and rescue Jyn’s father, who worked on the Death Star’s superlaser.
If any PS Plus members pre-order the movie to get the special Rogue One PS4 theme, they’ll also get a 25% discount on the movie when they buy it. The pre-orders will be staggered across the world in the last few days until the movie’s premiere, with France getting them today, Thursday being given over to the UK, Italy, Germany, and Australia, and Friday being given over to Spain.
Playstation 4 owners, though they’ll be getting the special Rogue One PS4 theme will still have to wait for a while until Rogue One actually becomes downloadable on the Playstation Store and other digital storefronts, but considering how fast The Force Awakens became available after its blockbuster release that hopefully won’t be too long.
Rogue One is the first in a planned series of anthology films that tell the stories of other notable figures and events in the Star Wars galaxy: a series focusing around a young Han Solo is also being planned.
In the meantime, if you’re a fan of Star Wars like so many people are, go and see it, and hope everything about it will tide you over until late 2018, when the next episode of the new trilogy of Star Wars movies is supposed to come out.
