Pokemon Sun and Moon Shiny Pokemon Guide – Chaining Method Tips, Find Shiny Pokemon, Mesuda Method

Pokemon Sun and Moon Shiny Pokemon Locations Guide to help you locate Shiny Pokemon which are rare, alternate versions of regular Pokemon.

Originally introduced back in Pokemon Gold Silver in Generation II, Shiny Pokemon are basically rare and alternate-colored versions of regular Pokemon. The reason why these are called Shiny Pokemon is because of the sparkles they emit during a battle.

Apart from being rare, Shiny Pokemon do not benefit from increased stats or anything like that. However, when I say rare, I actually mean it! According to an estimate, the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are 1 in 8192.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Shiny Pokemon Hunting

Despite their rarity, there are few methods using which you can try to get these Shiny Pokemon, but do remember that these methods do not increase the odds of getting them. I have only outlined a few methods using which you can try your luck and hope to get one.

Before we begin, do make sure to give trading a go; there are some trainers who can provide you with a Shiny Pokemon in exchange of some valuable Pokemon.

Explore, Explore, and Explore Some More

Some of you might not approve of it, but you can, sometimes, stumble upon a Shiny Pokemon while exploring. For this, you need to make sure that you do not have the repellent on and are checking places like water, grass, caverns, etc.

As I have mentioned earlier, the chances of coming across a Shiny Pokemon are really low, but it never hurts to try your luck, does it?

Shiny Pokemon Chaining

This is one of the known methods which you can use to try and catch a Shiny. For this method to work, you need to take advantage of a new system which is introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

In this system, when you engage a Wild Pokemon and get it to below 50% HP, the Pokemon calls upon ally Pokemon to help in the battle. You basically need to allow the main Pokemon to continue calling the ally Pokemon and hope for a Shiny Pokemon to come into view.

For this method, you need to have an item called the Adrenaline Orb which can be purchased early in the game from any Pokemon Centre. It is important to note that you can only use a single Adrenaline Orb in a battle.

You also need to make sure to you are not knocking out the main Pokemon. Moreover, any time during the chaining process, you can easily break it by knocking out the main Pokemon.

This method is not only good for finding Shiny Pokemon, but you can also use it to farm EVs in a short duration of time.

Masuda Method

As many of you can tell, this method is named after the game’s Director of Board Junichi Masuda. This method basically states that if you have a couple of Pokemon from different language say Japanese; you can breed them in order to try your luck at a Shiny Pokemon.

For instance, you can breed a Japanese Pikachu with an English Dragonite. However, do note that the odds of this are really low. They used to be 1 to 1366 in Generation V, but for the current generation; no exact number is known.
