Titanfall 2 launched last month with some stellar reviews but the game didn’t do well in the financial department. However, EA remains firm on its statement that the company will work with Respawn Studio on the franchise.
Speaking with Glixel, Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella shared his thoughts on the release window for Titanfall 2 and the studio’s relation with EA. According to Zampella, it feels a little odd to release Titanfall 2 so close to Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is from my old studio, that I built. And they’re repackaging my old game that I built, on a brand that I built. So it’s kind of like you’re throwing it all at me. OK, I can live with it.
When asked about what he thought about the game’s release so close to WWI based Battlefield 1, he responded “If the question was, ‘Would I rather have this window to myself?’ Well, of course,” he says. “I’m not foolish. I’m not foolish that way, anyway. In other ways, probably”.
When asked about whether the studio was worried about the game’s release sandwiched between two high profile game, Zampella said that it was always the concern of the studio.
It’s always a concern. That’s what I’ll say. Especially when you have two games on top of each other.
He further added that the studio would love to tell more stories about the game’s universe, as the game was critically a success but it is too early to say anything about the sales for the game. He also said that it is still uncertain that the team would develop a third game in the series.
While Titanfall 2 did not sell well because of release window was sandwiched between two games, but in the long run, the game might be a financial success.
So do you think Respawn should go with a third game in the franchise? Let us know in the comments.
