Koei Tecmo recently revealed in an interview that Nobunaga’s Ambition franchise will be making an appearance at Nintendo’s upcoming Switch console.
The announcement was made by Koei Tecmo’s Kou Shibusawa during a livestream on Niconico during which he confirmed that the turn-based strategy franchise will be appearing on the Nintendo Switch console.
Today I’d like to deliver one piece of surprise news for the audience.
We will make (develop / produce) a Nintendo Switch version of Nobunaga’s Ambition!
Although there are no other details available regarding the popular turn-based strategy franchise, Shibusawa’s statement does confirm that the franchise will be available on the new console in one form or another.
There hasn’t been any official word from Nintendo regarding the development of any game from Koei Tecmo. So far, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is pretty much the only confirmed game to be releasing on Nintendo Switch when it launches next year.
Nobunaga’s Ambition is probably one of the oldest historical turn-based strategy game franchises out there, with the first game being released in 1983. The franchise isn’t just exclusive to consoles either and the latest installment, Sphere of Influence was released on PC as well back in 2015.
Players choose from different campaign scenarios to play in, each scenario set in a different time period in Feudal Japan. Similar to other strategy games like Civilization, players have to keep track of their ‘kingdom’ and its needs. Recruit soldiers, keep citizens happy, go to war with other AI controlled factions and keep their economic conditions in check too.
Hopefully, the game planned for Nintendo Switch isn’t just a remaster or port of some older game from the franchise and Koei Tecmo is instead working on a totally new game. Perhaps if the sales on Nintendo’s hybrid console are good, the company might release the game on other platforms as well.
