Lara Croft, the famous adventurer and tomb raider every gamer knows is getting some special recognition this year. Croft, the heroine of the Tomb Raider franchise will be inducted into the upcoming Golden Joystick Hall of Fame.
The year 2016 has been pretty big for the franchise that originally started as a video game and then went on to become a global phenomenon and expanded into live action movies, comics and novels.
The franchise went through a reboot in 2013 and there have been two game releases since that time, both receiving highly positive critic reviews. Tomb Raider franchise also celebrated its 20th Anniversary this year alongside the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4.
The whole celebration event and induction into the Golden Joystick Hall of Fame will occur during the Golden Joystick Award ceremony on 18th November at London’s O2 Arena. Fans can be present in person to relive the journey of the franchise, after buying a ticket.
Since its launch in 1996, the Tomb Raider franchise has spawned more than 10 entries, including spin-offs and mobile games. More than 48 million combined copies of the franchise have been sold in these 20 years.
Lara Croft’s popularity only increased when two live action movies were created starring Angelina Jolie as the leading lady. Another movie is also planned with Alicia Vikander set to play the role of Lara.
The winners of the 34th Golden Joystick awards will be decided by voting done by the gaming community.
The voting has already started and gamers can vote for their favorite games or platforms for the year over here. Voting process will end on 31st October. Those that participate in the process can also claim a couple of games and a Green Man Gaming Mystery pack for just $1.
