Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel has officially released for players today after leaking a few days early last Friday. The DLC is the first of two that will be coming out for the game, though the release date for the next one, and what it’s called, remains to be seen.
Ashes of Ariandel will focus around the Ashen One as they travel to the painted world of Ariandel, a frozen wasteland filled with undead and a haven to the undesirables of society. The DLC will not only feature new weapons, new spells, new enemies, and new bosses, but will also include a player-versus-player battle arena, allowing teams of three players each to have team-based duels.
Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel was supposed to be released only today, but last week on Friday Xbox players found that if they were a season pass owner, that they could download the DLC early and start playing it.
Ashes of Ariandel, being a DLC for one of the hardest games ever made, also requires you to be as tough as possible before you venture into its snowy wastes. There are multiple messages at the start of the DLC that claim “Only the mighty may pass”, and that if you really do want to keep going you should have at least beaten Lothric Castle first, or even beaten the final boss (but before starting New Game Plus).
Considering that even in the post-game of Dark Souls games that the game is still punishingly difficult, it’s likely that beating the final boss won’t allow you to breeze through Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel, but it may just be enough for you to be able to struggle through it the way From Software intended.
So, if you’ve been working for the past few months to grind your character so that you could do better in the game’s DLC, now’s the time to put it to the test.
