Civilization VI Strategy Guide
In our Civilization VI Strategy Guide, we have discussed everything you need to know to be victorious at different stages of the game.
War and Consequences
In Civilization VI, you must officially declare a war in order to engage in one. There are 3 different types of wars you can partake in.
The first one is a surprise war. This is the war which is solely for conquest purposes and you have no formal reason to declare on. This has the most severe warmonger penalties and upsets other civilizations. There is also formal war which can be used after denouncing a civilization for consecutive x5 turns. This war also has severe consequences.
Lastly, there are reactive wars which are fought in order to liberate a city that has been conquered by your enemies or a holy war in case of a competing religion. It is important to understand that liberating a conquered city does not have any warmonger penalties and a holy war has 50% less warmonger penalties as compared to a surprise war.
While exploring, it is important that you deal with Barbarian Scouts who, if left alone, can cause serious trouble. In case you leave a Barbarian Scout be, it will report back to the camp and call in reinforcements to attack or enslave.
There is no understanding the motives that these Barbarians have, but most of the times, they only pick fights that they have high chances of winning. Keeping this thing in mind, it is important that you immediately kill a Barbarian Scout as soon as you encounter one.
The same goes for their camps which cannot only provide you with heaps of gold, but also impress other civilizations and city-states. It is also important to note that Barbarians do not pose much of a threat and are easy to eliminate early in the game, but tend to get tougher as you progress through the game.
Combat – How to
One of the most important things that you need to understand about combat is the terrain you are battling on. For instance, hills allow you to get a +3 defense modifier which makes them great for defending, but weak for attacking. Marshes, on the other hand, has a -2 modifer which is why you need to make sure that you are not caught while walking through it.
When it comes to conquering a city, you need to understand that you must take on its city centre in order to completely conquer it. However, since it is well-protected by a number of defensive reinforcements, it is easier said than done. Once you are done with reinforcements, you must deplete city’s health bar in order to conquer it.
If you think you are unable take on a city centre, try to do as much damage to resources and gold as possible. In order to do it, you need to destroy things like mines, farms, districts, etc.
