The announcement we all were waiting for a long time happened yesterday when Rockstar finally announced Red Dead Redemption 2. The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017.
Rockstar is yet to reveal the trailer but mentioned that it would be out on Thursday. There is nothing we know about the plot or characters of Red Dead Redemption 2 and for now, we only have the following description:
An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.
Sadly, there won’t be any PC version this time around as well but fans have started a petition for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.
The game’s announcement was made in the most Rockstar way possible. The studio teased the game on its social media channels with an image showing 7 silhouettes of what appeared to be a western gang. It is being speculated that players may get to play as not one but multiple characters in Red Dead.
The concept would be similar to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V single player mode. However, such a mode may not work for Red Dead, in fact, it didn’t work very well for GTA V.
The game itself was a masterpiece but its story had an odd pacing. Plenty of time it felt overwhelming to manage three different lead characters.
Meanwhile, Red Dead games have focused on storytelling and developing its characters throughout. The story would take a major hit if there are multiple characters to control.
The image you see above shows seven different gang members. It is an indication that we might get to control our own gang and possibly play as different members of the group. If such a design is to be implemented in Red Dead Redemption 2, it should remain isolated to certain missions; and not be a primary design choice for RDR2.
