Dragon Quest Builders Base Building Guide

In our Dragon Quest Builders Base Building Guide, we have discussed everything you need to know about building with tips to help you reach max level bases.

How to Gather Materials

There are multiple ways using which you can gather materials for building. These include enemy drops, fishing, etc. Enemies in the game have a chance to drop a couple of items so it might require some grinding to get the materials you require.

Our Materials Farming Locations Guide should give you a better idea on where to farm a particular crafting material.

When it comes to gathering blocks, you need to knock them away from the adjacent blocks. One important thing to note here is that you need powerful tools in order to break strong materials. For example, there is a huge amount of difference between using fists and using Hammer of the Builder.

How to Build

Before building, it is important to note that the procedure requires appropriate materials, a crafting station, and a recipe. This section details items that you can build in the game.

Materials
This category includes both the materials that you get from the in-game world and the materials that you can craft using raw materials. Once again, remember that you need to have recipes to be able to craft them.

Crafting Stations
Crafting Stations allow you to build specific items including other Crafting Stations. There are different types of Crafting Stations that can be built and every player starts the game with at least one type of it.

Recipes
As I have mentioned earlier, you need to have recipes to be able to build specific items. You start the game with a few recipes at your disposal, but more are discovered as you progress through the game. Recipes are actually acquired by accepting quests, finding materials, and crafting different items.

Tools
Tools cover everything from weapons to armour, shields, etc. These things essentially protect you from enemies and allow you to deal damage. However, unlike other build-able items, tools degrade over the course of time which is denoted by a Health Meter in the Equipment Tab.

Base Building

NPCs
After arriving at the Banner of Hope, these NPCs offer quests, rewards, blueprints, etc. Apart from this, these NPCs also contribute to your base’s defence and accompany you on your travels.

How to Build Rooms
The first thing that you need to know is that rooms can be built both inside and outside the base. Rooms that are built outside the base merely provide space to sleep, but the ones built inside the base have several benefits. Some of these benefits include:

Increase Base Level
Get Tools and Attribute Boosts for NPCs
Rewards

It is also important to note that an empty room is the most basic form of a room. You need to complete it with walls, a light source, a door, etc. in order to complete it. In addition to this, there are different types of rooms which provide several benefits.

For example, bedrooms increase total HP, special rooms increase HP recovery rate, food can be prepared in the kitchen, and some rooms improve equipment used by NPCs.

Storage Rooms
Since you have limited inventory space, you can build chests to be able to store more items. However, there is a limit on the number of chests that be placed at any given time. When it comes to storage, the colossal coffer in Story Mode and the colossal closet in Free Play are the best options.

With these inside your base, you should be able to access them from anywhere in the world. This should allow you to automatically transfer items to closet/coffer if your inventory is filled.

How to Build Max Level Base

Raising your base to max level is not as hard as many believe it to be. The first and the most important thing that you need to do is to put the items that you find during exploration to good use. There is no point letting the items rot in your inventory. Therefore, try to build decorations, etc.

In addition to this, you must upgrade walls/floors to blocks as soon as possible. It is important to note that stone, wood, brick, etc. provide base points, but earth does not. Stick to these things and you should have the max level base in about no time.
