The upcoming Gravity Rush 2 has been delayed from Dec. 02, 2016 to Jan. 20, 2016; game director Keiichiro Toyama confirmed on official Playstation Blog.
According to Toyama, the development team wants to release the game’s sequel at the right time.
Gravity Rush 2 Delayed to Early 2017
Toyama’s blogpost reads that although the production is going smooth, the development team wants players to have enough time to dive deep into Kat’s story. He also broached the subject of time put into online features that allow asynchronous player interaction:
Though production is proceeding smoothly, the landscape for that release date has changed dramatically. Gravity Rush 2 is the conclusion of Kat’s journey, so we want players to have enough time to dive deep into her story. In addition, as a lot of work went into online features that allow for asynchronous player interaction, we want as many people as possible playing the title at the same time.
The statement clearly implies that the development team does not want the players to sacrifice the game time with other major releases such as Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian, etc.
However, to make up for the delay, the studio will be giving away a premium DLC pack for absolutely free. The said DLC is essentially extra story content within the world of the game:
In exchange for the longer wait, we have decided to release the premium DLC planned for the title free of charge. This additional story will take place in the world of Gravity Rush 2 and we think fans will have a lot of fun playing through it.
