Gears Of War movie has been confirmed to be in pre-production, Microsoft, and The Coalition has partnered with Universal Studios to make the movie based on the best-selling game franchise.
Rod Fergusson announced it during a live stream, and the movie will be produced by Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films. Stuber’s production has produced movies like Ted, Central Intelligence and upcoming Patriots Day, as for Clark’s production, its credits include the Planet of the Apes franchise and Oblivion.
However, details like who will be directing and the writers were not specified, also the release window for Gears Of War movie is currently unknown.
According to The Coalition’s studio head, Rod Fergusson, they are not planning to make the movie faithful to the source material, that is games, as the movie is a different medium and making it faithful to the source might cause the movie to be a bad one.
When you do a movie like this, you have to … realize that it’s a different medium with a different audience. I think if you were to go in and say, like, ‘OK, it’s got to be completely 100 percent faithful to the game canon,’ or the story of the game, like, what’s going to end up happening is … it’s not going to be the best movie. The big thing we’re really trying to focus on is making the best Gears movie possible, as opposed to the one that’s the most closest to the game…
It seems that after Blizzard Entertainment and Ubisoft, other publishers are starring to bring their game IPs to the Hollywood. Also, Gears Of War movie is the only game based movie in development, Assassin’s Creed movie starring Micheal Fassbender is scheduled to release in December, and The Division movie is also in the line and will star Jake Gyllenhaal.
