In yet another shocker related to Modern Warfare remaster, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc will be required in order to play the CoD4 remaster, if someone doesn’t own the digital version of the games.
Many Call of Duty fans, myself included, were hoping to redeem/link the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster to their accounts and later sell the Infinite Warfare disc.
Seems like Activision thought of the same thing and made sure that the remastered game will only be playable if the Infinite Warfare disc is inserted in the console, despite the game itself being a download.
The recently launched Modern Warfare remaster page on the official Call of Duty website has the following note on it:
Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered).
This is just another move by Activision that has many fans crying out in protests. At first, the publisher included the Modern Warfare remaster as part of the Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe edition of Infinite Warfare, both of which are more expensive, thereby charging $20 for the remastered game.
Later on, the publisher also confirmed that the only way to get the remastered version of perhaps the best Call of Duty game, is to buy those specific Infinite Warfare editions and the game won’t be sold separately so if anyone is interested in the remaster but not the latest iteration of the franchise, they still have to spend a minimum of $80.
Those who pre order the relevant special editions on PS4 can get their hands on the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered campaign 30 days earlier, on 5th October while other platforms will get access on launch day, 4th November.
Activision has also confirmed that at launch, the Modern Warfare Remastered version will have 10 multiplayer maps while more will be added later for free. Developers Infinity Ward also revealed some interesting new crafting details regarding Infinite Warfare multiplayer
