FIFA 17 Ultimate Team beginner’s guide to help you get started with the FUT mode and start playing the game’s signature mode.
The game mode essentially lets you create your dream team, trade, manage your players out on the field, and micro-manage your way to success. The options are nearly endless which is what makes FUT the most celebrated game mode.
Before you embark upon the journey of a lifetime, there are some things that you should consider.
FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Beginner’s Guide
Since there is a lot to take in, our FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Beginner’s Guide outlines everything you need to know about the mode.
What are Cards?
Everything from players to contracts, badges, kits, etc. are referred to as cards in FUT. Cards are acquired from opening packs or from the global market with hundreds and thousands of online players. There are basically four kinds of cards in FUT.
- Consumables – Contains things ranging from contracts to healing sessions, training, etc.
- Club Items – Contains things like badges, balls, kits, stadiums, etc.
- Players – Contains players to help you expand your squad and become the best
- Staff – Contains staff items to help you continue towards winning
While FUT essentially revolves around managing the four card groups, it does not end there. There are a lot of things you can do in FUT. These things include offline/online tournaments, trading, draft mode, etc.
When it comes to playing on the field, chemistry is an important concept that kicks in. You cannot just include all the gold-tier players into your squad and hope to do good. You must ensure that your players are playing in their natural positions, are comfortable playing with each other, and have a natural connection with one another.
As a general rule of thumb; the higher the chemistry, the better your team performs. You can check out our Max Chemistry Guide to understand how exactly chemistry works and how to go on maximizing it.
General Tips and Strategies
Apart from choosing your club name and other things, there are some things that you should take care of!
When to Start Playing
The general consensus is that you should start playing as soon as possible. The reason for this is the global market. Near the release of the game, the market is highly unstable which the window to get as many good players as possible.
Even if you do not want to jump into playing, it is an excellent time to do some trading and earn a decent amount of coins in order to ensure long-term survivability of your team.
How to Earn Coins
It goes without saying that coins are the part and parcel of the entire FUT experience. Since coins ensure that sustainability of your team – especially in the long run – you need to make sure that never stop earning them.
It does not matter whether you have a few thousands or hundred-thousand, you never stop getting more. We have a separate in-depth guide on How to Maximize Coins in FUT which you can check for more details.
After gathering a handsome amount of coins, do consider getting managers. Managers are basically consumable cards which are expensive, are amazing investments, and are required in order to play matches.
Every gold manager adds 1% percentage on all contracts – a rare-gold adds 3%. The idea is to hire managers in a way that the total sum of your percentage becomes 50%. This basically means that the number of games while applying a contract card to a player will add 50%.
The reason for this is to ensure that you are able to sustain your club for as long as possible. One important thing that you need to bear in mind is to reach the 50% as cheapest as possible.
You basically need to get contract cards as soon as possible. With these, you should be able to put a player on the bench or in the reserve following an injury or something like that.
In case you do not have Contract Cards, you will have to use a Fitness Card or an Injury Card. This essentially goes hand-in-hand with the 50% bonus mentioned earlier and ensures that you carry your team forward without putting in a ton of effort.
As mentioned earlier, you need to have maximum possible chemistry among players to win games frequently. In order to achieve this, prefer players who share the same nationality or at least play in the same club or league.
Apart from that, you need to let players play on their natural positions and do not force things. Go with the formation that complements your individual playstyle. Last but not the least, if you have some extra coins to spare; invest them reserves and substitutes.

And yes, never forfeit the game, no matter what. If you forfeit, however, your % DNF will drop from 1.00 which will reduce the amount of coins you get at the end of a game. Most importantly, have fun! This is what you paid for after all!
