Since the Gears Of War 4 has been revealed fans have been asking developer that whether or not the game will support split screen functionality on PC or not. Well The Coalition has finally revealed that Gears Of War 4 split screen functionality will be supported on PC.
Speaking with PC Gamer, Technical director Mike Rayner said that from the perspective of development, Gears Of War 4 Split Screen functionality is “quite difficult to support”. He also added that adding the functionality was a “labor of love”, and the studio added it once they got the feedback from Gears Of War Ultimate Edition.
We have to deal with multiple inputs, we have to deal with focus, we have to deal with UI placement. That extra work–especially when having to also consider all the resolutions and aspect ratios a PC can have–may be why most big games nowadays don’t typically support split-screen co-op.
Rayner also said that adding Gears Of War 4 Split Screen functionality is “not just something you can tack on,” but instead requires “some effort” to get it right.
The Xbox One version of Gears Of War 4 is already confirmed to support split screen, however, the frame rate of the game will drop to 30 FPS.
Gears Of War 4 is going to be set years after the events of Gears Of War 3 and will introduce new characters. According to studio head Rod Fergusson, Gears Of War 4 is basically “Gear Of War The Next Generation”, as it is set after 25 years of the events of Gears Of War 3 with new heroes, who are trying to survive the night in the wilds to look for the source of the new threat.
Gears Of War 4 is scheduled to release on October 21, 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
