IGN has posted nine minutes of new Mafia 3 gameplay from Hangar 13, which shows Lincoln Clay going about a typical day in New Bordeaux: mainly killing rival gangsters, running from cops, and stealing cars. In addition to all of that, it also gives us a good indication of what all we’ll be able to do in the game.
To start off with, the Mafia 3 gameplay shows us a lot of the various things that we’ll be able to do in the city. While committing crimes is all well and good, a part of Mafia 3 is also Clay getting his own criminal gang off the ground, and that means eliminating competition. A substantial portion of the video is Clay actually running around taking out various other gangsters.
While you can apparently just walk up to any ne’er-do-well on the street and lamp them in the face with your gun, you can also be subtle in various ways, such as following a car discretely back to their hideout…before killing them all in one short gunfight.
Also included is that ever-present piece of the open-world gaming system: running from cops. Considering what all you’re doing it’s not that much of a surprise, but Clay spends a good few minutes running from the cops as he steals cars, rams into other drivers, and fires guns where people can hear.
Thirdly, we get to see an example of the collectibles we’ll be gathering: in this case, record album covers. While there’s no indication that you’ll be able to listen to them, it’s still yet another bit of world building in the alternate 1980s world we’ll be going into.
