PS4 Pro is coming out later this year and its games will run at 4K with HDR. At 1080p, it will offer better frame rates in some games compared to the standard PS4 counterpart.
However, PS4 Pro multiplayer games will not run faster compared to the standard PS4. The news came from Naughty Dog’s lead programmer Christian Gyrling.
Speaking at PlayStation Meeting, Gyrling stated:
But if you’re playing multiplayer games, it will be the same playing field. Base PS4 users, PS4 Pro users, you’re still running the same frame rate. Yes, you’re running at a higher resolution, you might be seeing it in HDR, but overall it’s a level playing field. We’re not benefiting the PS4 Pro users and skewing the community.
Developers will be able to take advantage of PS4 Pro’s additional GPU and CPU power to provide 4K gaming. But that additional power will not be put to use in multiplayer modes. Players across all PS4 models will have the same frame rates when playing with or againts each other in multiplayer modes.
Having better frame rates in multiplayer modes mean advantage to one side while the other will quite literally be raped.
PS4 Pro is releasing on November 10 for $399 and Sony will release an update for many current games to add 4K support.
