Not too long ago, Eurogamer published a report claiming that Nintendo NX is using cartridges. It was a very surprising report and many were skeptical about it. However, this time Wall Street Journal has published an identical claim.
According to WSJ, Nintendo NX will “adopt cartridges for its next-generation videogame console, people familiar with the matter said, a step that might prompt a reassessment of the old-school format.”
Industry watchers say that cartridges are indeed a reasonable choice for Nintendo’s next generation gaming platform as the company targets a wider range of consumers than Sony or Microsoft.
Moreover, the Journal mentioned that an announcement for Nintendo NX could come ahead of the Tokyo Game Show.
Recent rumors also point to a September announcement. Needless to say, Nintendo is still silent on the matter but all signs point to the silence breaking soon.
The hardware specs of the machine are also a mystery but inside sources told SegmentNext that the company is using a modified version of Nvidia parker chip. The chip is able to push 1.5 TFLOPs of performance which is slightly more than Sony’s PlayStation 4.
According to Nvidia, “Parker delivers 50 to 100 percent higher multi-core CPU performance than other mobile processors.” The Pascal-based chip uses the same architecture as Nvidia’s leading gaming GPUs – GTX 1060, 1070, 1080, Titan X.
