Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Chapter 3 is not in Development, Mission 51 Was Not a Scrapped Ending

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain chapter 3 is not in development, according to Konami. The studio confirmed on Twitter that there is no chapter 3 in development nor there are any plans to work on additional story content.

Furthermore, Konami assured the community that Mission 51 was not a scrapped ending. In fact, it was an additional mission that was cancelled prior to the release of The Phantom Pain.

The main purpose to include Mission 51 footage and art in the collector’s edition was to give players a behind the scenes look at its development. Originally, only 50 missions were planned and mission 51 was axed after being worked on for a short time.

Missions 51 footage will also not be included in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Definitive Experience. No additional content or perks are added to the new pack. It is basically just Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain combined with all MGO DLC.

The news will surely disappoint the community who were optimistic about seeing Chapter 3 is the Definitive Experience. Konami’s focus is now on Metal Gear: Survive, a zombie game set in the same universe as MGSV.

Konami may develop Metal Gear Solid 6 at some point but DO NOT expect to see more story content for Metal Gear Solid V.

If Konami works on a new Metal Gear Solid game, it would be interesting to see how they handle the francshie after Hideo Kojima’s departure.

As a Metal Gear Solid fan, I would love to see a game based around The Boss and her Cobra Unit.
