Gears Of War 4 is shaping up to be a pretty awesome game, and from what we have seen already, the game brings new things but stays true to the core of the franchise. The Coalition revealed during E3 2016, that Marcus Fenix will be returning in the game, however, he won’t be a playable character.
Speaking with IGN, Gears of War 4 creative director, Chuck Osieja, confirmed that Marcus Fenix will not be playable in the singleplayer of the upcoming game, and the campaign will focus on the new crew.
He’s not. He’s one of the AI characters. What’s nice about having Marcus not be a playable character is that because, he’s not playable, he reacts to things in the world a lot differently. [In Gears 4,] we kind of get a different perspective from him than we ever did before.
Recently, Chuck Osieja revealed that the the developer tried the realistic approach for Gears Of War 4 but it did not ended well for them. He revealed that the studio experimented with even more realistic looking character designs for JD Fenix and the gang but they looked odd.
It looked odd, because you do have an expectation for the characters, and it’s amazing when you start to model them out – just taking stuff like packs off of their waists or off of their legs really changes their shape quite a bit. And when they would run around in the environment or take cover, it didn’t feel like Gears any more.
The pre-order bonuses have also been revealed for Gears Of War 4. The bonuses include various new playable characters for multiplayer like Marcus, Anya and more, new weapon skins and Brothers to the End pack, which includes the original trilogy of Gears Of War games.
Gears Of War 4 is scheduled to release on October 11, 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
