The Gamescom Awards 2016 award ceremony took place today in Germany, and in the stage show a good variety of different games have all gotten a number of different awards in a variety of categories. Seventy-three different games and products were picked out for awards by the convention’s panel of experts.
To start off with, the first category in the show was the global awards, which went through every category that wasn’t about gaming. In this, Destiny: Rise of Iron won Best DLC. Horizon-Zero Dawn brought home the award for the Best Preview, and Mafia 3 by 2K Games won the Best Booth award.
The Gamescom Awards 2016 show also had a category for platforms in general. Ubisoft’s “For Honor” won Best Playstation 4 and Best PC games, while Sea of Thieves won the Best Console Game for Microsoft. When it came to mobile games, Nintendo’s Mario Party Star Rush took home the award, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won the best Wii U console game.
When it came to the Genre category, Final Fantasy 15 took Best Role-playing Game, while Forza Horizon 3 took Best Racing Game. Battlefield 1 got Best Action Game, while NBA 2K17 got Best Simulation game. Best Sports Game went to Steep, while Skylanders took Best Family Game. Civilization 6 took Best Strategy Game, while Dragon Quest Builders got Best Puzzle game.
The Gwent card game developed by CD Projekt RED took Best Social Game, while Battlezone got Best Casual Game. Sea of Thieves also took Best Multiplayer Game. Wilson’s Heart got Best Virtual Reality game and the Playstation VR itself got Best Hardware.
The next Gamescom Awards 2016 category, the Indie Games category, had Little Nightmares win the Indie award, while Battlefield 1 took the Consumer Award category and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home the Best of Gamescom award.
