The first images for the Playstation 4 4.0 update, called “Shingen,” have been put on the internet by Sony Japan. The update brings a lot of new changes to the Playstation 4’s welcome screen, all of which will be accessible when the beta for the update comes out today.
If you were selected to take part in the beta, you should have gotten an email with instructions on how to download the update. However, for the rest of you, you’ll have to read this article to find out everything that comes with it.
First off, the UI has been changed for the Playstation 4 4.0 update. There are new system backgrounds and an updated “What’s New” tab, and the update even messed with the popup notifications and re-designed system icons.
The Quick Menu feature has also been altered to make it faster and easier to use. The menu now only covers a small portion of the screen rather than the whole thing, and you can also see the online status of your friends, and shortcuts to access other parts of the Playstation 4. You can even customize the Quick Menu to take off or add various functions.
If you just did or found something cool in a Playstation 4 game, the Playstation 4 4.0 update has also given an overhaul to the Share Menu on your Playstation 4. Now it doesn’t cover up the whole screen either, and also keeps tracks of the last social network you sent a game clip to, making the process of sharing faster and more streamlined. You can now also upload game clips to Twitter, and they’ll last for 140 seconds instead of 10.
There have also been improvements to the trophy system, your folders and how you organize your library, and even your user profile. If you want to see all the specifics, you can check it out on the official Playstation blog.
