The GameStop website has let a rumor start to spread about the digital version of Gears of War 4 early download becoming available in September. A month early, specifically, being on September 13 rather than October 11. If we really want to know, however, we’ll likely have to wait for an explanation from Microsoft or from The Coalition.
It’s been a year since Gears of War 4 was announced at last year’s E3 with a demo that showed us the new enemy, the Scourge, along with windflares, a new weather hazard on Sera in the aftermath of the Locust War’s devastation. The Gears of War 4 trailer this year was more of a demo, showing us more of what the windflares would do, as well as showing us Marcus Fenix, now at least twenty years older.
Add that to all of the anticipation building up from the Game Informer issue on the game and a trailer that came out, and you could understand why some people might start a rumor that a Gears of War 4 releasing early download for the visual version is coming soon.
It’s not a completely impossible rumor; you can play Gears of War 4 early, but only around four years only and that’s only if you pre-order the $100 Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition, rather than just buying the digital edition.
The Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta has already passed and has gotten a fairly positive reception, but there are still roughly three months until the game comes out, even if you bought the Ultimate Edition.
The Coalition and Microsoft have yet to comment on the rumor of the possible Gears of War 4 early download, but whatever their response it still means that people will have to wait a while longer before anyone can play the game. Gears of War will be releasing as part of the Xbox One’s Play Anywhere program, and will come out on both PC and Xbox One.
