Sonic is one of the most legendary franchise in the history of the gaming, however, recent titles have not lived up to the standards. But Sega seem to recapture the glory days of Sonic. The company has announced two new Sonic games at Comic Con 2016.
The first of the two new Sonic games is “Sonic Mania”, which is a 2D platformer that features visuals and gameplay similar to the classic Genesis games. The game revamps acts and levels from classic Sonic games, along with introducing new ones.
Sonic Mania is developed by Sega America in collaboration with PagodaWest Games. Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley, who ported Sonic games to mobiles, are also involved in the development.
Sonic Team head, Takashi Iizuka, said that Sonic Mania only exists because of Sonic fans, and fans will learn more details about the game later this year.
Sonic Mania was born out of our fans’ love of the classic Sonic 2D platform games. This type of collaboration is a first for Sega and we hope everyone will be both surprised and delighted by this title. Sonic Mania has been a passion project for the entire team and we look forward to sharing more details about it later this year.
Sonic Mania is scheduled to release in Spring 2017 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The second game of the two new Sonic games is an untitled Sonic adventure game. The game is being developed by Sonic Team, and the game features both classic and modern versions of Sonic. However, no title has been revealed for the game, but it will release in Holiday 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo NX.
So what do you think of these two new Sonic games? Will Sonic be able to make a comeback? Let us know in the comments.
