Online Competitions: These are your regular online matches, players are matched with others to play over the internet. These can either be open to all Trainers or pre-approved ones.

Live Competitions: A note out of Pokemon Go book, these competitions will allow players to compete againts players who are in the same space. The Digital Player ID that comes with regulations will be provided as a QR code. Scan the code to join the game on a 3DS system.

The Pokemon Company is also bringing a Hyper Training function.  This training feature allows players to increase the power of their Pokemon. Pokemon that have grown past level 100 can benefit from Hyper Training and boost their individual strength.

Hyper training is done by Mr. Hyper, a new character who can be found somewhere in the Alola region. By using Bottle Caps, a new item which is obtainable in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players will be able to carry out Hyper Training on their Pokémon.

The mythical Pokémon Magearna will be distributed in North America via a Bottle Cap held item.
