For those waiting for Playstation Neo news at Gamescom 2016, don’t hold your collective breaths. Sony has opted to skip Gamescom for the second straight year, having skipped last year’s event and choosing instead to host a conference during Paris Games Week.
Gamescom 2016 runs from August 17 – 21 in Cologne, Germany and it’s arguably the biggest global video game event.
Players and fans have been looking forward to any big Sony events in anticipation of an official announcement or reveal for the Playstation Neo.
Sony executive Andrew House confirmed NEO’s existence in a statement shortly before E3. He also said that Sony had no plans to reveal the new console any time soon. Indeed, Sony no showed the console at E3 and now many fans will be disappointed to know that Sony won’t host a conference at Gamescom.
With news that Microsoft will also skip Gamescom this year, many expected Sony to take the spotlight and reveal the Playstation Neo.
Sony; however, will still have a presence at Gamescom with an official booth, though this won’t satisfy anyone patiently waiting for the Playstation Neo’s reveal. At any rate, this also most likely puts to rest any rumors about a possible 2016 release window for Neo, as Sony will need more time to run a comprehensive advertising campaign for the latest edition to the Playstation family.
There’s still hope for Neo to be revealed this year at Tokyo Games Show this September. Sony is set to also reveal the Playstation 4 slim to mirror Microsoft’s Xbox One S, which was revealed at E3 2016.
Regardless, Gamescom always promises to be a stage for many new reveals and announcements every year, so we’re bound to hear news and see the newest reveals. Are you looking forward to Gamescom?
