As if The Witcher 3 wasn’t popular enough already, CD Projekt Red is now going to be putting out The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition. The game, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide as of March of this year, was one of 2015’s best games, and won a multitude of awards even before its release.
If it follows the tradition set by many other Game of the Year editions, The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition will end up including every single piece of DLC that has come out for the game along with it. This includes the large amount of cosmetic DLC that came when the game first released, along with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the game’s two main DLCs that greatly expanded the size of the world.
The decision came from a story on Eurogamer, which was then passed to Polygon. Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said that the entire reason for The Witcher 3: Game of the Year edition is due to the huge amount of DLC and updates that the game has previously received, so, in his words, it was only natural that a Game of the Year edition would result.
Further details about the upcoming re-release have yet to actually come out, but Tomaszkiewicz has said that they will be releasing all of the details soon. These details would include a release date, among other things. Eurogamer had previously reported the edition would be launched on August 26, but we have no real proof of that yet.
The Witcher 3: Game of the Year edition will likely be CD Projekt Red’s last hurrah with the Witcher series, now that the studio has finished the series. Instead, now they’re turning their attention to developing their science-fiction RPG Cyberpunk 2077. Either way, if you’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, now’s your chance.
