The main idea behind launching the public test realm for Overwatch was that Blizzard Entertainment wanted to be better informed when releasing an Overwatch balancing update targeted either at the play of the game or the characters – and it has turned out pretty well so far.
After a couple of other characters were nerfed by the developers, the community is now inquiring about others that have some areas of improvements. Recently, users on the official Battle.net forums were asking Jeff Kaplan what his opinion was about Zenyatta.
While responding to the thread, the game director said that they were actually discussing what to do with the character, but so far it was just exploration of options.
However, his statement does confirm that we are going to get an Overwatch balancing update that will tweak things with it just like other characters before this one:
We’ve been talking about him. We wanted to see how the Widowmaker and McCree balance changes played out before making any changes. We’re exploring some options right now. Nothing more to report at this time.
Talking of, Widowmaker and McCree were nerfed two weeks after we had originally reported that this will happen. This was followed by a confirmation from Blizzard Entertainment that they will nerf Torbjorn in an Overwatch balancing update that will be released after mid-July.
However, unlike what most of the community members were thinking, the changes to Mercy are not actually a nerf, but a bug. This was also confirmed by the developers yesterday while they assured a fix will restore her to her true self soon.
The story of Zenyatta is not going to be the same as these Overwatch characters though. He is a very tough support hero who is hardly seen in competitive play. For this reason it is expected that the character is going to get buffed.
