No Until Dawn 2 Yet at Supermassive Games, But Other “Cinematic Storytelling Narrative-Driven” Things
Have you been waiting for Until Dawn 2, the sequel that should supposedly be in development at Supermassive Games? Well, if you were, you are in for some disappointment as the developers themselves have confirmed the game is not in development.
Clearly, they are prioritizing other things over this one.
Pete Samuels, the Managing Director of Supermassive Games, finally decided to put an end to the rumors that he had himself started about nine months ago.
Back then, he had discussed a potential Until Dawn 2 release, saying it won’t be a traditional follow up to the original game. This led almost all the fans to speculate that the game must be in development at the studio.
Sadly, that is not the case and it took us nine months to get a confirmation on that from Samuels himself, who says they are busy with “other things” right now:
There’s a lot of speculation about what we’re doing and what we’re working on right now. We’re not working on Until Dawn 2 at the moment. We’re working on other things.
That is not all, Samuels says that they want to build on everything positive they got from Until Dawn and expand themselves as a studio across platforms and experiences.
We really want to push to bring those experiences, those cinematic storytelling narrative-driven games, be it horror or not, to other platforms as well. The switch kind of came with the success of Until Dawn. It’s, ‘Okay, we’ve achieved a stepping stone,’ and it is only a stepping-stone towards, what we want to be as a studio and as a developer.
What we think is that they have deliberately put Until Dawn 2 on hold because they want to expand and not be limited any specific label. That is a good thing in the long run!
