Kit Harrington, best known for playing Jon Snow in the hit TV drama series Game of Thrones, has finally had his role revealed in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. While it’s been known for a while that Harrington will be playing the game’s main villain, we didn’t have a specific identity. Now, we do.
Kit Harrington will be playing Admiral Salen Kotch. In-story, Kotch is the admiral that’s commanding the navy of the game’s antagonist faction, the Settlement Defense Front. The Settlement Defense Front kicks off the story’s central conflict by attacking the city of Geneva in Switzerland, devastating the forces of the United Nations Space Alliance and causing a war over the resources of the rest of the solar system.
In addition to commanding the Settlement Defense Front’s large navy, Salen Kotch also commands its enormous flagship, the Olympus Mons. Named after the largest mountain on Mars (which is even taller than Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth), the Mons will be hunting your ship throughout the story.
Kit Harrington’s character promises to be an enormous threat to the characters. The Settlement Defense Front’s fleet is bigger than Earth’s, better trained, and better armed. How difficult it would be to defeat the Defense Front was illustrated in the Infinite Warfare gameplay demo at E3, where the protagonist’s ship, the Retribution, attacked a Settlement Defense Front ship called the Ares Vallis in orbit around Earth’s moon.
While we haven’t gotten any real preview of ground combat from Infinite Warfare, at least Infinity Ward is taking the game’s transition into space very well. Space battles won’t be on rails and you’ll be able to do a lot of stuff with it to make it your own home-away-from-home as you play.
Hopefully considering his performance in Game of Thrones (especially how he acted in this week’s episode Battle of the Bastards) Kit Harrington’s acting experience will be a great part of the game to see.
